From Nothing to a New Life in Springfield
I arrived in the U.S. in July 2024 with nothing. SK Community & Family Services helped me get food stamps, apply for my EAD, enroll in Tech Foundry, and find a job. Today, I’m an IT Support Specialist with a full-time job and my own car thanks to their support.

When I came to the United States in July 2024, I had nothing — no money, no job, and no idea where to start. I felt completely lost. That’s when I found SK Community & Family Services, and everything began to change.
In just my first week, they immediately helped me:
Apply for food stamps, which I was approved for and received the same week, so I didn’t have to worry about food.
Apply for a fee waiver for my EAD card because I couldn’t afford the fee, making sure I could work legally as soon as possible.
Enroll in a program at Tech Foundry, an IT school, to help me start building a career.
Eight months later, I graduated from Tech Foundry, ready to start my career in technology.
As soon as my EAD card arrived, SK Community & Family Services guided me through every step:
They helped me find a job quickly, connecting me with opportunities and teaching me how to navigate interviews and applications.
They took the time to explain how credit works and how the system in the U.S. operates, so I could build a strong financial future.
They supported me every step of the way, always checking in and making sure I had what I needed.
Today, I am proud to say I work as a full-time IT Support Specialist, I have a stable income, and I was even able to buy my brand new car.
This was only possible because SK Community & Family Services was there from the beginning and never gave up on me. Their support completely changed my life, and I will forever be grateful for everything they’ve done.
